Chorochronos

Although it is not a navigation application

ChoroChronos can help you find your way too

Being a mountaineer for years, I appreciate everything which makes finding my way easy and safe.

In a recent trip to the Rhodope mountain range (northern Greece), with fog, rain and very poor mobile connection I was reminded that navigation and routing does not work well even with offline maps. Google Maps could not follow the route to return where I came from. Instead of going south, it sent me north...

ChoroChronos can help you remember your past decisions efficiently with two of its features:

  • Events can appear on the map of their Context
  • You can add voice memos, photos or other attachments to any Event
How to make an Event appear on the map

You can define an Event "Location" or "Waypoint" or whatever name you like. Just make sure you enable "Show on Context map", as shown in the image. Even more interesting is that you can control which of the event attributes will be used as a label for the pin.

Pin actions

The pins have very useful actions. Various map apps make it very difficult to find the coordinates of a place, and this can be very frustrating. Especially if you want to share your location before you lose signal again.

Being able to choose which attribute appears with the pin, you can answer questions like "where have I seen a cormorant?"

Tips

  • Make sure you include the direction you were moving (example: going somewhere or returning?)
  • Nothing beats a voice memo when you want to document a decision (which turn and why).
